Snake River Angler Fishing Report October 27th, 2014

Snake River
More variable weather has moved into the region over the past week giving times of warm sunshine and others with cooler, wetter weather.  Fishing remains good regardless, with more intense hatches of blue-winged olives and mahogany duns on those days with cloudy and precipitation.  You will also see more intense chironomid emergences as well.  The same bugs will be out on warmer days, but they will be joined by some October caddis.  Double nymph rigs are producing throughout the day in a variety of holding water.  Warmer temps in the afternoon allow for production on the surface with mayfly and caddis imitations.  Riffles, seams, and confluence points are key targets to focus on.  The heavier the emergence, the more likely you will get into fish on shallow banks and flats with slower currents.  And don’t forget to target side channels – they are fishing very well with blue-winged olive, mahogany dun, and chironomid emerger patterns.
Effective dry flies – Circus Peanuts, Will’s Winged Chernobyl, Stimulators, Stimulator Xs, Parachute Adams, Comparaduns, Parachute Extended Body BWOs, and Mahogany Duns, Booty’s BWO and Mahogany Emergers, Quigley Cripples, Film Critics, Pheasant Tail Emergers, and Furimsky BDEs.
Effective nymphs – Pat’s Rubber Legs, BH Hares Ear Nymphs, Copper Johns in red or olive, Booty’s Deep Stinker Nymphs, Lightening Bugs, Rainbow Warriors, Soft Hackle Prince Nymphs, and Flashback Pheasant Tail Nymphs.
Effective Streamers – Bow River Buggers, Beldar Buggers, J.J. Specials, Thunder Minnows, Baby Bunnies, and Lite Brite Zonkers.

South Fork
Flows from Palisades Reservoir have been ramped down to just below 2,500 cfs. Fishing has been good on the South Fork, and those days with colder weather are giving us significant hatches of blue-winged olives and mahogany duns, particularly on the upper reach in Swan Valley.  All holding water types are fishing well, but nothing is as productive as targeting riffles, seams, and flats with lightly weighted nymph rigs and mayfly/caddis surface imitations.  Streamers are also producing throughout the day and have been bringing in bigger fish on the lower reaches from Wolf Eddy down to Menan.
Effective dry flies – Chubby Chernobyls, Will’s Winged Chernobyl, Stimulators, Tent-Wing Caddis, Parachute Adams, Snowshoe Duns, Comparaduns, Parachute Extended Body BWOs, and Mahogany Duns, Booty’s BWO and Mahogany Emergers, Quigley Cripples, Halo Emergers, Film Critics, and Pheasant Tail Emergers.
Effective nymphs – Pat’s Rubber Legs, Copper Johns in red, olive, or black, Booty’s Deep Stinker Nymphs, Lightening Bugs, Rainbow Warriors, Flashback Pheasant Tail Nymphs, Bubbleback Pheasant Tail Nymphs, Psycho Mays, and Bruised Mays.
Effective streamers – J.J Specials, SRA Bunnies, Booty’s Quad Bunny Leeches, Chickletts. Kreelux, Silvey Sculpins.
