Snake River Angler Fishing Report July 28th, 2014

Snake River
Flows continue to recede and clarity continues to increase and the Snake is fishing very well. All reaches are producing but nothing is fishing as well as the Park sections from the Dam down to Moose and in the Forest from South Park down to Sheep Gulch. Streamer action is best from Pacific Creek down to Deadman’s Bar and from West Table down to Sheep Gulch. The primary hatches include PMDs, caddis, and yellow sallies. Emergences are not near as strong as they were the past month but this is not slowing down the activity on the surface. An added bonus is that we are seeing more grasshoppers and carpenter ants. Riffles are fishing best, followed by banks and structure (especially those with moderate to shallow depths), and then seams. Activity is best in the morning with streamers, nymphs, and attractors in the #8 to #10 range. Dry fly action picks up in the afternoon with attractors and imitations of PMDs and yellow sallies. The Snake is starting to fish really good, and it is only going to get better from here.
Effective dry flies – Circus Peanuts (#8 to #12), Grape Magic (#8 to #10), JH 22 Stones (#8 to #10), SRA Chernobyls (#8 to #10), Will’s Winged Chernobyls (#8 to #12), Rubber Legged Double Humpies (#8 to #10), Parachute Extended Body PMDs and Mahogany Duns (#12 to #14), Stimulators (#12), SRA Foam Sally (#12), Comparaduns (#12 to #16), Snowshoe Duns (#12 to #16), Quigley Cripples (#12 to #14), Booty’s PMD Emerger (#12 to #16), Film Critics (#12 to #16), and Parawulffs (#12 to #16).
Effective streamers – SRA Bunnies, Booty’s Quad Bunny Leeches, Clouser Minnows, Silvey Sculpins, Lite Brite Zonkers, Kiwi Muddlers, Marabou Muddlers, Kreelux, Sculpzillas, Arum’s Lil’ Kim, and Chickletts.
Effective nymphs – Lightening Bugs (#10 to #14), Copper Johns (#12 to #16) in red, olive, or black, Batmen (#12 to #14), Zug Bugs (#12 to #14), Bubbleback Pheasant Tails (#12 to #16), Booty’s Deep Stinker Nymph (#10 to #14), and Flashback Pheasant Tails (#12 to #16)

South Fork
Still fishing very well with consistent flows and good clarity, although you do need to work somewhat harder for your fish. We are still seeing impressive hatches of PMDs in the afternoon as well as decent emergences of yellow sallies. You might see the odd golden stone still about. Grasshoppers are starting to frequent the banks in good number. The lower reaches below Byington were fish OK earlier but these sections are starting to fish as well or better than anything upstream. All holding water is fishing best in the morning with nymphs and streamers, although there is some action on large attractors and terrestrials patterns. In the afternoon, nothing is better than fishing PMD dun, emerger, and larva imitations in the riffles. Attractors and terrestrial patterns will continue to work along banks, structure, and flats. Remember – the South Fork is not fishing as it was a couple of weeks ago, but it is still very good if you target the right water at the right time and fish hard.
Effective dry flies – Circus Peanuts (#8 to #10), Chubby Chernobyls (#8 to #10), Stimulator Xs (#8 to #10), Snake River Water Walker (#8 to #10), Amy’s Ant (#8), Parachute Hoppers (#8 to #10), Dave’s Hopper (#8 to #10), Stimulators (#8 to #12), Comparaduns (#12 to #14), Parachute Extended Body PMDs (#12 to #16), Booty’s PMD Emerger (#12 to #16), CDC Sulfur Emergers (#14 to #18), Quigley Cripples (#14 to #18), Film Critics (#14 to #18), and Pheasant Tail Emergers (#14 to #18).
Effective nymphs – Pat’s Rubber Legs (#6 to #10), PR Muskrats (#8 to #10), Lightening Bugs (#10 to #18), Copper Johns (#10 to #12) in red, Rainbow Warriors (#12 to #18), and Robins (#12 to #16).
Effective streamers – Bow River Buggers, Booty’s Quad Bunny Leeches, Strung-out Leeches, Silvey Sculpins, Intruders, Clouser Minnows, Beldar Buggers, Arum’s Lil’ Kim and Murphy’s Bling Minnow.

Green River
Flows at Warren Bridge currently stand at just over 100 cfs and the Green is fishing just as well as it has over the past two weeks. Streamer action is good throughout the day and there is solid surface action from 8am until about 1pm, which is when the best emergence of gray drakes and PMDs is occurring. After that, action slows quite a bit. All sections from the Campgrounds down to Sommers are producing. Streamers are working best along banks and structure, as well as in seams and eddies. Drake and attractor patterns are producing in the same water from late morning until late afternoon. Don’t be afraid to move these patterns a bit when fishing them along banks and structure, especially in the mid-afternoon hours. This tactic will produce somewhat better than dead drifts. And don’t be afraid to tie on a dropper if the surface actions slows.
Effective dry flies – Circus Peanuts (#8 to #10), Chubby Chernobyls (#8 to #10), SRA Chernobyls (#8 to #10), Will’s Winged Chernobyls (#8 to #10), Luna Negras (#8 to #10), Rubber Legged Double Humpies (#6 to #8), Turck’s Tarantulas (#8 to #10), Grape Magic (#8 to #10), Film Critics (#10), Extended Body Gray Drakes (#10), Booty’s Gray Drake Emerger (#10 to #12), Parachute Hares Ears (#10 to #12), Yeager’s Neversink Drake (#10 to #12), Parachute Adams (#10 to #16), Quigley Cripples (#10), and Parachute Extended Body Cahills (#10).
Effective streamers – Zoo Cougars, SRA Bunnies, Booty’s Quad Bunny Leech, Sex Dungeons, Silvey Sculpins, Bow River Buggers, Bellyache Minnows, and Lite Brite Zonkers.
Effective nymphs – Copper Johns (#10 to #14) in red, Lightening Bugs (#10 to #14), Flashback Pheasant Tails (#10 to #14), Zug Bugs (#10 to #14), TB UV Prince Nymphs (#12 to #16), and Robins (#10 to #14).
