Snake River There has been some clearing on the Snake with the inclement weather we have had in over the past week. The bigger news is that Jackson Lake is very near filling and, to make room, releases from the dam have increased to 2,500 cfs. Flows should increase again once the reservoir is completely filled. Bureau of Reclamation projects flows to max out at 4,000 cfs, and then drop sometime in late June or…

Snake River Angler Fly Fishing Report for May 18th, 2015
Snake River The tailwater reach below Jackson Lake Dam continues to have the most reliable fishing, and this past week displayed a major uptick in action. Clarity is pretty much 100% and we are starting to see more and more surface activity as trout feed on Chironomids, blue-winged olives, and Callibaetis. We are also seeing some caddis and some little brown stoneflies. Best action has been in eddies, seams, and deep riffles and troughs. Dry-dropper…

Snake River Angler Fly Fishing Report for May 11th, 2015
Snake River The tailwater reach below Jackson Lake Dam remains the only reach of clear water on the Snake at the moment. Flows are at 550cfs and water temperatures are cold, but there fish are being caught on a variety of nymphs and streamers. Submerged structure, eddies, and the center runs of long riffles are the most productive water. Tackle depends on depth, which is quite variable at the moment. Lightly weighted double nymph rigs…

The only reach with clear, fishable water at the moment is on the tailwater reach from Jackson Lake Dam down to Pacific Creek. Releases from the dam remain at approximately 550 cfs. Water…

Snake River Angler Fly Fishing Report for April 27th, 2015
Snake River The Snake went into runoff earlier this week. Visibility is less than a foot but on those days when there is overnight freezing above 10,000 feet, clarity can reach the two foot levels– not great by any means but enough to give fly fishers OK action on streamers and nymphs. Remember that the Snake is full of spring creeks, and targeting the confluences even on those days of limited visibility can reap rewards…
