Snake River
The monsoon this past week intensified productivity on the Snake, yielding strong hatches of PMDs, hecubas, mahogany duns, and even some BWOs on every reach.  Imitations of these bugs were certainly effective.  However, larger attractors and streamers were also effective.  Skies are forecasted to clear this week and temperatures will warm, but don’t expect mid to high 80s for the rest of the season.  We should be in the comfortable 70s, and this most likely means that the patterns that worked this past week will be producing for the rest of late summer and through autumn.
Large attractors and stonefly imitations are working best along banks and structure and are also generating activity in riffles and seams. Don’t be afraid to fish these flies off of primary lies on days of heavy cloud cover, when trout feel a bit more comfortable to hold away from protected holding water.  Mayfly imitations (both duns and larva) are working in the same water, but expect the best action to be in riffles, seams, and eddies.
Streamers are working just about everywhere right now.  Banks and structure are obvious holding water types to target, but there is also very good action in riffles, seams, confluence points, and eddies.  Moderate to rapid retrieves are key.  Use hover, intermediate, and 3ips sinking lines and tips for best results.

Effective streamers – Murphy’s Bling Minnows, Kreelux, Bow River Buggers, Booty’s Quad Bunny Leech, Galloup’s Sex Dungeon, Silvey Sculpins, and Marabou Muddlers.

South Fork
As on the Snake, the monsoon of this past week produced strong and productive hatches on every reach of the South Fork.  Mutant stones were still about, but we also saw lots of PMDs and mahogany duns, as well as some caddis.  Good fishing will remain for the coming weeks, and imitations of all of these bugs, be it adults, pupa, or larva, will continue to produce.
Riffles, seams and eddies have been the most fruitful waters to target with mayfly and caddis surface patterns.  These waters are also producing with nymph patterns tied as droppers off of larger attractors.  Stonefly attractors are also working in riffles seams and eddies as well as banks and structure.  Perhaps the most productive water over this past week has been flats and riffle shelves.  Nymphs fished as part of a dry dropper rig or tandem mayfly/caddis dry rig have worked very well in these holding water types.
Streamers are also working well on all reaches.  Action can be sporadic at times, but fishing baitfish imitations throughout the day can produces happy results with acceptable numbers and some very large trout.  Banks and structure are key targets.  Seams and eddies are also fishing well with streamers.

Flat Creek
Great action on Flat Creek this past week with good emergences of PMDs, mahogany duns, blue-winged olives, and some tricos.  Expect much of the same for the next month or so. With the return of sunny skies this week, trout will most likely return to protected lies on undercut banks and deeper riffles and eddies. 5X and even 4X leader has worked over the past week but 5X and 6X leader will be the norm with the clear skies that are on the way.  Coating your leader with a degreasing agent can help generate takes from our increasingly leader shy trout of Flat Creek.
