Snake River

Warmer temps over the past week has led to more comfortable and consistent fishing.  There is a two hour window each day for good fishing at the moment, although it is shifty – sometimes its 10:30am until 1pm, others its noon until 2pm, and still others its 1:30pm until just after 3pm.  Surface action is sporadic but best in deeper ledge rock pools and eddies.  This same water, along with riffle current margins, are good places to be with double/triple nymph rigs, even earlier in the day before the sweet spot in the time-of-day kicks in.

Dry flies – Griffith Gnats, Ritt’s ARF Midge Adult, Parachute Midges, and CDC Midge Emergers.

Nymphs –  KK’s Rabid Squirrels, Duracells, Booty’s Day-2 Midge Pupa, Jujubee Midges,Zebra Midges, Spanish Bullets, and Perdigons.

South Fork

Midges has been the name of the game over the past couple of weeks, as has a time of the day when activity is most consistent – almost squarely 12:30pm to 3:00PM.  The upper reach just below the Dam and the lower reaches from Kelly’s Island down to Lorenzo are the places to be.  Focus primarily on riffle pools and seam margins.  Surface action has been sparse.  Adjust your leader length from line/suspension device, but focus primarily on the five to seven foot range in deeper pools and four to five in shallow, slower pools.

Nymphs – Cyclops, Brillion’s Lucent Jigs, Copper Johns in black or red, Egan’s Dart, Zebra Midges, Ice Cream Cone Midges, Frenchies, and Perdigons.
